An aspiring prison officer who hit Crystal palace star Aaron wan-Biassaka with a plastic beer bottle during a Premier League match has told a court it was a “drunken mistake” that he could not even remember.
Mahoney, a floor layer from North Shields, told Crydon Magistrate court’he is a rugby fan and went to the football match, his first, only because there was a spare ticket.
Mahoney pleaded guilty to throwing a bottle onto a football playing area and was sentenced to a six-month conditional discharge with £105 in court costs and fees.
Anthony Mahoney had a lot to drink before coming to watch the game, he was said to have drank 12 pints of beer when he threw the bottle from the Selhurst Park away end during Palace’s September tie with Newcastle United.
Despite the hit from the bottle the 21 year old appeared unscathed as he lasted for the entire duration of the game.
Wan-Bissaka has been a consistent fixture for Roy Hodgson’s men this season featuring in all but one of their Premier League games.
He will be expected to be involved when Crystal Palace take on Leicester City on Saturday.
